I am an assistant professor (tenure-track) at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. I majored in Language, Literacy, and Education and minored in Second Language Acquisition & Teaching (SLAT) at the University of Arizona. I taught ESL and Turkish as a Foreign Language in Arizona's public and charter schools as well as literacy organizations like Literacy Connects Tucson and PIMA Adult Second Language Acquisition Program. I also taught a linguistics course to pre-service teachers for ESL endorsement at the UA. In the Corpus and Repository of Writing Project (Crow Corpus, Crow Blog) team, I helped develop language materials for writing teachers and organized outreach activities for high school teachers. I am a board member and the current president of the AZTESOL organization.

Academic Interests:
Some of my academic interests are listed below,  but I continue to learn about the latest theories and approaches to language and literacy teaching and learning. I am open to collaboration on different topics that relate to language and literacy education. Please contact me if you would like to discuss or collaborate on language and literacy ideas.
  • Second language writing development and ESL students' writing experiences in secondary schools, particularly in science courses (dissertation research)
  • Corpus pedagogy in language and writing classes
  • Written academic registers (i.e., writing in academic contexts)
  • Educational discourses (classroom, media, etc.)
  • Content area, disciplinary, and digital literacy development
  • Transformative teaching and learning in higher-ed ESL endorsement programs
  • Doctoral student mentoring in higher education

Methods:
I am interested in using the following methodologies in my academic research. I actively implement some in my research projects: ethnographic perspectives (participant observation, interviews, field notes, focus groups,
home visits) in online and in-person settings, discourse analysis, corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS), corpus linguistics, academic literacies, and genre theory and practice.

In my free times, I continue to develop my German as a third language and volunteer at professional organizations.
