I am a fifth year PhD candidate in the Language, Reading, and Culture Program at the UA. I am majoring in Language, Literacy, and Education and minoring in Second Language Acquisition & Teaching (SLAT). Before starting the graduate program, I taught ESL and Turkish as a Foreign Language in Arizona's public and charter schools as well as literacy organizations like Literacy Connects Tucson and PIMA Adult Second Language Acquisition Program. While conducting my dissertation research in a local high school, I continue to teach a linguistics course to pre-service teachers. Additionally, I work for the Corpus and Repository of Writing Project (Crow Corpus, Crow Blog) and develop language and literacy materials for middle school science teachers with scientists as part of the SBAR project. I am a board member and the current president of the AZTESOL organization.
Academic Interests:
Some of my academic interests are listed below, but I continue to learn about the latest theories and approaches to language teaching and learning. I am open to collaboration on different topics that relate to language education. Please contact me if you would like to discuss or collaborate on language and literacy ideas.
Methods:
I am interested in using the following methodologies in my academic research. I actively implement some in my research projects: ethnographic perspectives (participant observation, interviews, field notes, focus groups, home visits) in online and in-person settings, discourse analysis, corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS), corpus linguistics, academic literacies, and genre theory and practice.
In my free times, I continue to develop my German as a third language and volunteer at community organizations in Tucson.
